Professor Joseph Harbaugh (Editor)

Joseph Harbaugh is Professor of Law and Dean Emeritus of the Shepard Broad Law Center of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida USA. In four decades as a legal educator, he has served on the law faculties of Connecicut, Duke, Temple Georgetown and American Universities and as dean and professor at the University of Richmond. As dean at NSU Law, he supported creation of travel law courses, the school’s affiliation with Travel Law Centre and the International Travel Law Journal, and sponsorship of the annual International Travel Law Conference. He has written articles and presented papers on travel law and is a member of the Academy of Hospitality Industry Attorneys. A recognized expert in the art and science of legal negotiation, Harbaugh is the co-author of the standard text, “Interviewing, Counseling and Negotiating: Skills for Effective Representation,” and a best-selling instructional CD, “The Fundamentals of Negotiation.” On behalf of New York’s Practising Law Institute and the American Law Institute-American Bar Association (ALI-ABA), Professor Harbaugh conducts negotiation workshops for lawyers, business people and government officials. He numbers among his clients half of the National Law Journal’s Top 100 firms and dozens of Fortune 100 corporations and also “coaches” and leads negotiation teams for law firms and businesses. Professor Harbaugh has served in a wide range of legal education leadership positions, including the Executive Committee of the Association of American Law Schools (AALS), the Council of the ABA Section on Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar, as a member and former Chair of the Board of Directors of Access Group, Inc., legal education’s non-profit student loan program, and as the AALS Representative in the ABA House of Delegates for 19 years.
